Rachel Renee Smith, 28, formally of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016.  Rachel was born in Indianapolis on August 26, 1988 to Samuel Roger Miller Jr. and Tina Lynn (Smith) Hignite.  She was currently a student at Daymar College, completing a degree in Business Administration.  Rachel was creative; she had a funky flair for fashion, and was always very stylish.  She also liked to write.  She was a very proud Christian, whose faith was unshakable.  One of the things she liked to write were Prayers.  She also wrote poetry and journaled.  Her best writing were the letters of support she liked to send to people who needed it.  Rachel was a very caring person, she was the one who would drop everything to help someone in need, no matter the time of day or night.  She was a very strong person, and was always the one to lift everyone else up.  She was fiercely protective of her brothers, and her family.   They were very important to her, especially her son Makai.  She had a knack for connecting with children, and always seemed to have somebody’s child with her.  She was silly, and unpredictable, which was her charm.  Even when she was mad she was able to show she cared, by taking care of those around her.  She will be greatly missed.  

Rachel is survived by her son Makai; her parents Tina (Jack) Hignite and Samuel Miller Jr; her siblings Joel, her twin Samuel (Lisa), Michael (Joy), DuShawn DuPree Miller, Kyle Grogan, Alexis (Richard), John (Marda) Mariah, and Olivia; her maternal grandparents Pam (Phil) Cartwright and Mark (Dee) Smith; her paternal grandmother Anita Miller; Rasheen “Shean” Ross, who she had been with for 11 years, whom she maintained a loving, loyal, and strong bond with no matter the circumstances; and many chosen family and friends.   Rachel is preceded in passing by her paternal grandfather Samuel Miller Sr. and her first child Raina Lynee Smith, by pregnancy loss.

Service for Rachel will be at 7:00 pm, Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Fountain Square Cremation & Funeral Services.  Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until the hour of service.
