Walter "Mackey" Franklin Jones III

Walter "Mackey" Franklin Jones III, 66, of Indianapolis, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021.

Mackey was born in Beech Grove, IN on October 31, 1954, to Walter Jones II and Wyvonna G (Meyers) Jones.  He was a machine operator for many years before retiring.  Mackey looked like a tough biker, but the truth of it was he never ridden a motorcycle a day in his life, and he was a huge softie on the inside.  He was the type of man who if he knew you liked something (like ladybugs or frogs) everytime he saw a neat one, he'd buy it for you to make you smile.  And the only way to get him to stop before you were overrun with them, was to tell him you no longer liked them.  He never met a stranger, and would often have long conversations with people he just met, to the chagrin of those with him.  For a man who couldn't figure out most technology, Mackey was the king of emojis and loved using them.

Mackey adored the holidays, Halloween being his favorite with Christmas a close second.  Both were big decorating holidays and he pulled out the stops for both.  He was such a frequent shopper at the Hallmark store, the women who ran it actually cried upon hearing he took ill.  Decorating was his trademark, and when his health took a turn he gave his daughter all his things for her to carry on the tradition.  What he loved best about the holidays was how it brought the family together.  Mackey was a huge family man, and adored his grandchildren.  He was dependable, and if one of his kids or grandkids asked him to attend their game or school events he was there.  He might be late, but he always showed up.  He especially loved baseball and even coached a team for his grandkids once upon a time.  Mackey was a great husband, dad, and grandfather who will be greatly missed; but those left to cherish his memory can find solace in that he is now reunited with Aaron in heaven.

Mackey is survived by his wife, Rita Jones; his children James Jones (Shawn Carpenter), Joshua (Emiko) Sparks, and Sarah (Jeremy) Blake; his grandchildren Mira, James II, Jamie Lynn, Reid, Gavin, Alexis, and Pierce; his siblings Terri Lee, Michael, and Mark; and several nieces and nephews.

Mackey is preceded in passing by his parents Walter and Wyvonna Jones; and his grandson Aaron. 

Funeral Services for Mackey will be 1 PM, Thursday, August 4, 2021, at Fountain Square Cremation & Funeral Services.  Visitation will be from 4-8 PM, on Wednesday, August 5, 2021 at the Funeral Home. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to help offset funeral costs.
