Walter Floyd, 74, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away Saturday, Feb 22, 2020 in his home following a hard-fought battle against metastatic colorectal cancer. The son of Walter Floyd and LaJessia Moore, Walter was born and raised in Henderson, KY on April 5, 1945.
Walter graduated from Douglas High School and after having his first child, Walter began the journey to support his budding new family. Throughout his lifetime he had many known professions from working in his early days at Whirlpool to manager of various entertainment establishments. Later in his life Walter would come to work at Job Corps recruiting and assisting youth to find gainful employment as well as develop critical skills for professional and personal development. Towards the end of his career he mainly worked managerial positions before his retirement.
Walter enjoyed a great many things in his retirement and filled his day with activities ranging from home renovation, working on automobiles, and constant observation of professional and college football.
He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Floyd; daughter, Leslie Hazelwood; son Asa Floyd; Grandson, Justin Floyd; Granddaughter, Chelsea Benberry; Grandson, Drew Hazlewood; Grandson, Drake Hazelwood; Granddaughter, Misha Parks, as well as a host of great grandchildren.
Walter’s memorial service will be held in Indianapolis on March 7,2020 with visitation taking place from at 10 AM at the Fountain Square Funeral Home located at 1420 Prospect St, Indianapolis, IN 46203. Funeral services will start at 12 PM and burial will be held at the Crown Hill Cemetery.
