Steven “Steve” McBrian Ward I, 51, of Indianapolis, passed away on October 6, 2024. Born on December 9, 1972, to Archie Ward and Teresa (Wyde) Jacobs, Steve was a tough, hardworking man who knew how to get things done.
A hands-on guy, Steve ran his own window and gutter cleaning business for years. He wasn’t afraid of a hard day’s work and took pride in building a successful business with his own two hands until the pandemic forced a change. But no matter the situation, Steve never let life’s curveballs knock him down. He was a fighter, someone who always found a way to keep going, never letting the bad times define him.
Steve was the kind of man you could count on. He didn’t hold grudges—he was quick to forgive and always willing to move on. With his easygoing nature, he made friends wherever he went and had a way of lighting up the room. Whether at a party or family gathering, Steve was the life of it, always cracking jokes, telling stories, and making sure everyone was having a good time. He loved playing games on his phone, but he was even more passionate about being there for his family.
Being a father and grandfather meant everything to Steve. He worked hard to be the best dad and grandpa he could be, always trying to be there for his kids and grandkids. And as an uncle, he was a favorite—always the fun one who knew how to make any situation better.
More than anything, Steve’s rock was his wife, Crystal. After 27 years together and 21 years of marriage, they were inseparable. Wherever Crystal was, Steve was too, so long as he had his love by his side he was home.
Steve is survived by his wife, Crystal Ward; his children, Steven Ward II, Anthony Ward, Brandy Ward, Matthew Ward, Alyssa Ward, and Taylor Styers-Fleshman; his stepfather, Jake Jacobs; his brothers, Archie Ward II, Jay Ward, and Richard (Amy) Ward; his father-in-law, Larry Brannon; his mother-in-law, Pamela Downey; sisters-in-law, Christine Brannon, Katrina Benge, and Holly Brannon; 13 grandchildren; and 29 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Archie Ward, and his mother, Teresa Jacobs.
A funeral service for Steven will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 7:00PM. Visitation will be from 3:00PM until the time of service.
