Shawn Jason Ramsey Sr, 45, of Indianapolis, passed away on December 30, 2020.
Shawn was born in Indianapolis, IN on December 10, 1975 to C. Denver and Ruby (Vance) Ramsey; whom are waiting to receive him in heaven.
Shawn Sr was preceded in birth by 6 adoring brothers and sisters; Brenda Levi who promptly married and moved out of the house upon hearing of his imminent arrival. William (Dereatha) Ramsey who loved him with all he had to give, but was in awe at the time of his birth of having yet another brother to train in the ways of the world. E. Elaine (Lonnie) Garrett who would become like a surrogate mother to him when his parents were out doing important things. Mark Ramsey, who as a middle child, never got that much attention so did not really care that there was another kid, but loved him from the beginning anyway. Jennifer (Jeff) Carney who was ecstatic about the live baby doll she had just been given as an early Christmas present. He was and forever will be her favorite doll in spite of the fact she dropped him on the concrete porch a few times and let him ride his walker down the steps as well (Please do not tell her daycare parents this!). Last but not least, his brother Timmy (Deneise) Ramsey who was not happy at all by Shawn Sr's arrival as he had been the baby of the family for eight years and did not like to lose that position. It all ended well as Timmy could not deny the fact that he loved Shawn Sr more than he did the rest of us as he FINALLY had someone HE could pick on. He also helped Shawn Sr find his way after the premature death of our father.
Please indulge us in one more stroll down memory lane for the siblings before we move on to the two most important people in Shawn Sr's life. We do not know if our mom was just too tired to think of names or what, but as the future siblings of the baby she was carrying, we all were tasked with coming up with and agreeing upon a name for our newest brother. To Shawn Jason Ramsey II, you are welcome for that awesome name. To Mark, who does not have a middle name, as mom did not give him one, just realize that she could not be bothered at all to give one to Shawn Sr. Hehehe
Shawn Sr is survived by not only his brothers and sisters but by the greatest joy of his life, his son, Shawn Jason Ramsey II and the love of his life and mother of his son, Misty Williams. These two had the power to light up his life just by being. When Shawn Sr looked at Shawn II or Misty, you could see the love in his eyes. Dolly Parton sang it best: Although he had no money, he was as rich as he could be!
As if all that love from his son Shawn II, Misty, and his brothers and sisters were not enough, 11 nieces, 6 nephews, and many great nieces and nephews also loved Shawn Sr.
When Shawn Sr was not busy being Misty's Ace, he earned his way as a Floor Technician as do all his brothers and many cousins. Everyone in the flooring industry knows that they Ramsey Boys are the go-to technicians to get things done.
Shawn Sr enjoyed spending time with his son watching sports (especially the Indianapolis Colts and the IN Pacers), playing video games like Madden and Mortal Kombat, shooting hoops, and playing catch. In fact, remembrance of one particular game of catch puts a sparkle in Shawn II's eyes. During this game, Shawn II threw a ball so hard that it broke his dad's glove when he caught it. A super proud moment for his dad!!
The 4th of July was Shawn Sr's favorite holiday. His parties were legendary. more than a few times the fire department had to be called to put out fires caused by fireworks. It is not a 4th of July party until the fire department has been called!!!
Shawn Sr was the calmest, and most level-headed of all his siblings. He did not inherit the "Ramsey Temper". Shawn Sr's heart was filled to the capacity for all those in his life. There was not a spot left for any kind of hate or animosity for anyone.
Shawn Sr will be missed by all those who loved and knew him.
Memorial Services for Shawn Sr will be 7 PM, Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Fountain Square Cremation & Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3 PM until the hour of service.
Although Shawn will be cremated, we will join him after the service for a last ride through the city that he loved so much.
