Sandra "Sandy" Kay Gaines, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away on February 6th, 2023, peacefully at home with her loved ones.
Sandy was born in Indianapolis, IN on November 8, 1945 to Loris H and Evelyn L (Dwyer) Mason. She worked many jobs over the years but her primary one was a homemaker. Sandy enjoyed walking and reading. She was a talented beautician who enjoyed cutting and coloring hair. Her favorite season was fall when the leaves were changing, and spring when the world was beginning to wake up and come back to life. Winter was the worst, because it was too cold. Sandy had a strong faith, even if she couldn't attend church she never waivered in her belief. Her greatest joy was visiting with family and friends, especially when her health kept her homebound. In her later years, Sandy really grew into herself; her hard edges softened, and she was the sweetest person you could ever hope to meet. She found her peace, and went home to Heaven knowing that she loved and was loved fully.
Sandy is survived by her children Bryan Gaines, Cynthia Gaines, Wendy Willis, and Carol Holka; her sister Deborah Miller; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Sandy is preceded in passing by her parents Loris and Evelyn Mason; her daughter Kathy McKenney; and her husband William Gaines.
Funeral Services for Sandy will be 11 AM, Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Fountain Square Cremation & Funeral Services. Visitation will be 3-7 PM, Friday, February 10, 2023 at the funeral home. Burial will follow Saturday's service at New Crown Cemetery.
