Ruby Mae Smith, 54, of Indianapolis, Indiana, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on February 2, 1972, in Indianapolis,

Ruby was first and foremost a devoted wife, mother, Nana, aunt, and homemaker. She found her greatest purpose in caring for those she loved. She shared more than 20 wonderful years with the love of her life, her husband, Juan Gamez. Together they built a home filled with laughter, love, and unwavering devotion to their family.

Ruby loved listening to country music, spending time at the racetrack with her boys, laughing with her niece ,Shopping and collecting beautiful jewelry. While she enjoyed many things, nothing brought her greater happiness than being surrounded by her family. Being known as “Mommy,” “Nana,” and “Aunt Ruby” were the titles she treasured most.

Ruby also lovingly helped raise her niece and nephew ”sissy” and “bubby” whom she loved as of her own. She had a heart big enough to welcome anyone who needed love, comfort, or a place to belong.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved husband of more than 20 years, Juan Gamez; her sons, Thomas Lucas Gamez Smith and Jesus Gamez Smith; her treasured grandchildren, Sebastian and Rainbow; her brothers and sisters, Jerry, Daisy Mae, Gilbert Lee, Billie Jo, and Randy; many nieces and nephews and countless extended family members and dear friends.

Ruby was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Dorothy Irwin and Gilbert Smith, and by her beloved sisters, Willa Belinda Gravel and Helen Sims, who preceded her in death.

Ruby’s life was a beautiful reminder that love is found in the everyday moments—a warm meal, a shared laugh, a family gathering, or simply being there for the people who mattered most. Her kindness, strength, laughter, and unconditional love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Services to celebrate Ruby will be at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 7, at Fountain Square Cremation & Funeral Service, with visitation from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services.
