Mildred "Millie" Arvina (Wright) Mahurin

Mildred (Millie) Arvina Mahurin, daughter of Walter and Ruth (Esch) Wright, passed away at the Altenheim Family-first Senior Living facility in Beech Grove, Indiana on June 12, 2021. Millie, a resident of Beech Grove, Indiana, was born on August 22, 1931 and, at the time of her passing, was 89 years old.

    Millie leaves her family and friends a legacy of a life well lived. She was a devoted wife and mother to her family; a faithful member of the Bible Study Chapel; and committed in her relationship to the Lord Jesus Christ. Throughout her life she exhibited an attitude of determination and discipline as she encountered a variety of challenges which included the daily responsibilities of raising a family; serving alongside her husband in evangelistic and pastoral ministries; and experiencing the demands of being an entrepreneur. She was constantly engaged in the pursuit of excellence.

    She was noted for her ability to take simple ingredients and prepare a delicious meal. Her baked goods were amazing and included freshly baked homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, Danish pastry, pies, cakes, and cobblers. She was a, primarily self-taught, seamstress, painter, and musician. She also enjoyed gardening and providing piano and art lessons to children and young people who expressed an interest in learning. Millie understood the importance of mentoring the next generation.      

    Millie was preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Dale Wright; her husband Melvin E. Mahurin; a son, Melvin K. (Butch) Mahurin, and his wife Debbie; a daughter, Kathleen D. Pool; and a son-in-law, Greg Labens. Survivors include two sisters, Martha Jean Brown; and Merlene Wright; son Mark Mahurin and his wife Bonnie; daughters Faith Ellen Chapman and her husband Winston; Karen Westermann; and Grace Labens. Survivors also include a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

    Celebration of Life service for Millie Mahurin will be at the Bible Study Chapel at 2368 N Spencer Ave. Indianapolis, Indiana on Thursday June 17, 2021. Visitation begins at 11:00 am with service to follow at 1:00 pm. Flowers may be delivered between 9:00am and 1:00 pm.
