Michael Smith Obituary

In Loving Memory

Michael Lee Smith, 50, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on February 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on March 23, 1975, in Indianapolis, Michael was the beloved son of Frances and Jimmie Smith. He grew up on the east side of Indianapolis and attended Arsenal Technical High School, where he formed many lifelong friendships. One friendship he held especially close throughout adulthood and parenthood was with David Thomas.

Michael was a devoted and proud father to Eric Smith (32), Breaunna Smith (26), and Brittiny Burdine (22). His love only grew stronger with the arrival of his eight cherished grandchildren — Alicen, Blaze, Latavion Jr., Kehloni, Ayvah, Giovanni, and Jose Jr. — who were truly his pride and joy. He treasured every hug, every laugh, and every moment spent with them. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Robert Smith.

A talented craftsman, Michael dedicated many hardworking years to Reynolds’s Body Shop while also helping friends and family with paint jobs on the side. His passion and skill extended into the model car community, where he was well known and respected. He loved attending car shows and frequently earned awards for Best Paint Job. Those wins weren’t just trophies — they were reflections of the heart, precision, and pride he poured into everything he created.

Music was another great passion in Michael’s life. He loved rocking out on his guitar and drums, turning up his favorite songs and losing himself in the rhythm. Whether playing along or simply enjoying the moment, music was one more way he expressed his vibrant spirit.

Michael had a playful personality and a wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed making funny videos to share on Facebook, always looking for ways to bring laughter to friends and family. He had a special gift for brightening someone’s day with a joke, a smile, or a perfectly timed punchline.

He will be remembered for his generosity, strong work ethic, quick wit, musical soul, and the deep, unwavering love he had for his family and friends. The memories he created — at car shows, family gatherings, and through shared laughter and music — will be treasured forever.

Michael is survived by his children, Eric Smith, Breaunna Smith, and Brittiny Burdine; his eight grandchildren; and his cousin, Donald Moon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie and Frances Smith; his sister, Sheri Smith; and his grandson, Robert Smith.

Michael’s presence will be deeply missed, but the love and laughter he gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

He will be forever loved and never forgotten.
