Melissa Murry Obituary

Melissa "Melissa Stone" Lynn Murry, 43, of Indianapolis, formerly of Little Rock, AR, passed away on September 12, 2021.

Melissa was born on February 28, 1978 in Little Rock, AR, to Lin Murry and Deborah (Stewart) Higgs.  She worked many jobs over the years, but her most prominent and cherished accomplishments were as those of an Activist, a Performer, and a Teacher.    Melissa was tough as nails, as shown by the way she always unapologetically lived her life as herself and was a sub for IPS. She traveled the world following her passions, whether it was performing as Melissa Stone, speaking out for equality, or mentoring youth into being their true selves.  She started young with the IYG and kept with it all her life.  Melissa was very passionate about living, she was incredibly eloquent and educated, not to mention so clever a lot of people didn't realize right away she was insulting them.  She never lost her temper and always kept her cool, which made it all the more devastating when she delivered.  Melissa loved education and was the first person to call others on their shit and try to educate them about a better way.  Melissa competed in the Ms Venus Continental Pageant and her grace, poise, and talent landed her in the top 5, something she was incredibly proud of.  It was just one of many pageants she did and placed.

Melissa was an angel of love, beloved by all.  She was selfless to the extreme, the type of person who would give the food off her own plate even if it meant she was hungry.  She always put others before herself.  Her heart was pure gold and no one possessed a more generous spirit.  She was fun, always the life of the party.  Melissa was incredibly accepting of everyone, and while she was a practicing Wiccan, she still held faith that there was some other higher power as well.  Her family meant the world to her, and her nieces and nephews were the children she never had.   Melissa spend the last of her days with one of her best friends, Nina, whom she had known since they were teenagers.  They spent their time reminiscing on the goodtimes and trying to reconnect with everyone. She had so much love to give and she gave it so freely and unconditionally, the world is a little dimmer for her loss.

Melissa is survived by her mother and father Deborah and Steven Higgs; her sister Misty (Charlie) Ramshur; her niblings Scotty, Avery, Jacob, Carlie, Brandon, Nathan, Gregary, Kristin, and Desiree; her great-niblings Alexander, Axel, and Journee; and her beloved dogs Woofy and Sissy.

Melissa is preceded in passing by her father Lin Murry and her sister Michelle, whom she was especially close to.
