On October 19, 2023, we said our heartfelt goodbyes to a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Matthew "Matt" Collins, who left this world at the age of 72. Matt's life, filled with warmth and laughter, began on October 17, 1951, in Harlan County, KY, born to Moses and Cassie Collins.
Matt spent many years of his life as a dedicated plumber, using his skilled hands to solve problems and keep the water flowing for countless homes and businesses. But beyond his professional life, Matt was known for his infectious enthusiasm for life and his unwavering love for his family.
He was the kind of person who was always ready for a good time, eager to share a laugh and create memories with his friends and family. Matt's fun-loving spirit was a source of joy to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
However, it was in the role of caregiver that Matt truly excelled. When his siblings and daughter faced illness, he provided them with the utmost care, proving that his heart was as big as his smile. Among his cherished loved ones, Matt had a special place in his heart for his faithful companion, his pitbull Minnie.
Matt is survived by his devoted wife, Romania, his children; Earl Collins, Matthew Capps, April Capps, and Chad Capps, his grandchildren; Heather, Brittney, and Sabrina. Minnie, his loyal pitbull, remains a living reminder of the love they shared. Additionally, numerous nieces and nephews are left with the memories of an uncle who always had time for a smile and a good story.
As we remember the life of Matthew Collins, we also reflect on the family members who greeted him in the afterlife. He joins his parents, his daughter Sandra, his grandson Christopher, and his 13 brothers and sisters who have gone before him.
The legacy of love and laughter that Matt leaves behind will forever brighten the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him. In our hearts, he will live on, remembered for his joyous spirit, his caring nature, and the many moments of happiness he shared with us.
