Mark Benjamin Thompson, a dedicated family man and hardworking individual, departed this world on November 23, 2023, at the age of 66. Born in Lexington on November 22, 1957, to William and Eunice Thompson (Lockston), Mark's life was a testament to the values of perseverance, love, and the joy found in both labor and music.
Mark dedicated his life to the art of masonry, where his unwavering work ethic not only built structures but also provided a foundation of support for his family. A loving father, Mark worked tirelessly to ensure the well-being of his children, Amanda Combs, Mark Combs, and Christyanna Thompson. He was the epitome of the best dad, and his love for his children knew no bounds.
Beyond the realm of bricks and mortar, Mark found comfort and joy in the strumming of his guitar. He shared this passion with his nephews, spending countless hours teaching them the intricacies of music. Mark's legacy, therefore, is not just in the structures he erected but in the melodies and memories he created with those he held dear.
Mark, the youngest of 18 siblings, was undeniably spoiled by the love of his parents and siblings. His stubborn yet resourceful nature set him on a path of achieving his goals and endeared him to all who knew him. His big heart and soft spot for children extended beyond his own, making him a beloved figure in the lives of many.
He is survived by his children and grandchildren, Amanda Combs, Mark Combs, Christyanna Thompson, Arianna Eads, Brian Eads, and Lilly Litel. In addition, he is survived by his sister Norma Haney and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Mark is preceded in passing by his parents, his wife Bonnie, and 16 siblings.
A celebration of Mark's life will take place at 7 PM on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Fountain Square Cremation & Funeral Services. Visitation will be held from 3 PM until the hour of service. Let us come together to honor the memory of a man who enriched our lives with love, music, and a relentless work ethic. May he rest in eternal peace.
