Lowell Chalmers Doty Jr, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away on July 22, 2020.
Lowell was born in Indianapolis, IN on October 21, 1933 to the late Lowell C. Doty Sr and Dorcus (Fendley) Doty. He graduated from Washington High School in 1952 and stayed active in their Alumni Association. In 1959 Lowell earned his Associates Degree in Mortuary Science from Indiana College of Mortuary Science.
Lowell was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served from January 1953 to May 1955. He served in Hawaii during the Korean conflict.
Lowell worked for several funeral homes in the Indianapolis area throughout his career. He eventually owned Dorsey-Doty Funeral Home. In his semi-retirement years, he continued to stay active funeral service.
Lowell along with his wife shared the same Faith and strong belief in God. He was an active member of Fountain Square Church of Christ, where he would serve as a Deacon. He was involved in the church community. Lowell went on to become a minister serving several Churches of Christ in Indiana and taught at The Indianapolis Christian School.
Lowell volunteered many hours to Perry Meridian High School and George Buck Elementary School.
Lowell married Clara Dolores Doty on August 24, 1963, she preceded him in death on January 22, 2019.
Lowell is survived by his daughters Jennifer (Dave) Blevins and Melinda (Mike) Armstrong; brother-in-law David (Charlotte) Embry; his grandchildren Katie, Allison (Dustin), Megan, Matthew, and Molly Jane; his great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Colton, Kendall; and 3 nieces and 2 nephews.
Family and friends will visit at Fountain Square Cremation and Funeral Services on Sunday, July 26, 2020 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM. Private family services and burial will follow later, with military honors.
Due to the current Covid-19 guidelines, mask will be required at the funeral home during visitation.
