Kathleen "Kathy" Widland, a truly compassionate soul and dedicated mother, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, at the age of 69.
Born on March 31, 1956, Kathy approached life with the same fierce dedication and discipline she exhibited in the water. She earned All-American honors during her collegiate swimming career, a testament to her drive and commitment. Yet, those who knew her will remember her not for her medals, but for the profound warmth and boundless generosity of her spirit.
Kathy was a devoted mother and a compassionate wife to her late husband, Carl Widland. To her countless friends, she was a loyal and supportive confidante, always ready with a kind word or a shared memory.
Kathy cared deeply for all living things. Her gentle nature was perhaps best captured by her unique friendship with the backyard opossum, a nocturnal visitor with whom she shared all of her dinner leftovers.
Kathy’s loving memory is carried on by her children, Anna Hofstetter and Richard Hofstetter; her stepchildren, Ingrid Rodriguez and Karl Hofstetter; and her adored grandchildren, Alexander Woods and Alanna Woods. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and an unwavering belief in the good of all creatures.
A funeral service to celebrate Kathy’s life will be held at St. Edward's Church on Friday, October 3rd, at 12:00 Noon. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a local animal welfare organization, in honor of Kathy's lifelong commitment to animals.
