Johnnie Gamill Obituary

Mr Johnnie Gamill, “Dada” was born January 10, 1935, in Belzoni, Mississippi to Sam Gamill and Annie Carpenter. Johnnie departed this life on February 15, 2024, at the age of 89. During his life Johnnie worked at Bernstein Salvage and Strap Yard in Indianapolis. He devoted 52 years to them before he retired, ending his career with the well-earned reputation of a very hard and dedicated worker.

Johnnie was united in matrimony to Annette Jones, and they shared 62 years together and their union was blessed with seven children. Johnnie’s first marriage was blessed with five children.

Johnnie enjoyed life to the greatest. He had the most amazing personality and a smile that could brighten your day; he was an amazing man. He enjoyed spending his time with his family and friends, often playing cards. He loved listening to music and was a talented bass guitarist. Johnnie was THE Fix-It Man, always fixing things around the house and working on cars.

Johnnie’s all-time favorite hobby was fishing, he enjoyed it most of all. He was not fussy about who his fishing partner(s) would be that day, so long as they were able to go. He found a solace and peace on the water rarely found anywhere else.

Johnnie leaves to cherish his memory his children Lorraine Gamill, Dorothy Elders, Magadaline Gamill, Annie Brinson, Terri L Jones, Gerlyn Jenkins, Marshall Gamill, Regina Gamill, and Alex L. Gamill; his brother Sam Gamill; seventeen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Johnnie is preceded in passing by his father Sam Gamill; his mother Annie Carpenter; children Johnnie Gamill Jr, Edward R. Gamill, and Druscilla Daniels; and his siblings Roxie Gamill, Gladys Gamill, Edith Powell, and Cornelius Gamill.
