Joan Marie Pettigrew, 61, of Indianapolis, formerly of TN, passed away on February 10, 2024. Joan was born in Hartsville, TN on July 15, 1962, to Homer and Katherine (Kendall) Scruggs.
Joan was a woman of many talents and passions. She possessed remarkable skills for crafting, such as knitting, crocheting, and creating various ornaments and knickknacks. Her creative spirit benefited the lives of those around her, as she often made things for those she cared about. Joan also found delight in outdoor activities, particularly playing horseshoes when she was younger, and she cherished moments spent engaging in card games, as well as classics like Dominos, Yahtzee, and BINGO.
Joan enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, often found donning her favorite pajamas and warm fuzzy socks. Yet, her greatest source of happiness stemmed from her role as a devoted mother and grandmother. Her family was her anchor, her reason for being, and she poured her love and devotion into each moment spent with them. Her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Kevin Pettigrew, her children Daniel (Bonnie) Pettigrew, Rebecca (Mane) Rodriguez, Brandy (Blake) Anderson, and Jacqueline (J.C. Culp) Pettigrew, along with her cherished grandchildren Calvin Jr, Alan, Mamadi, Myah, James, Makylah, Christopher, Jovani, Jacob, Nicolas, Abigail, Xzavier, Jace, and Blake, as well as her great-grandchild Calvin III; and her siblings Michael "Toby" Scruggs, Sam Rybolt, Flora Spivey, Kathy Harlow, Terry Scruggs, and Homer "Snapper" Scruggs; and many nieces and nephews..
She is preceded in passing by her parents, Homer and Katherine Scruggs, her father-in-law Boyd Pettigrew, her sister Glenda Spiegel, her granddaughter Lyrica Anderson, and her ex-husband Douglas Pettigrew.
Funeral services to honor Joan's life will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Fountain Square Cremation & Funeral Services. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Monday, February 19, at the mortuary. Burial will follow Tuesday's services at New Crown Cemetery.
Joan will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, her memory cherished through the love and warmth she leaves behind. May she rest in peace.
