Jesse Leroy Collins, 85, of Pimento, IN, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away on October 13, 2024. Born in Indianapolis on August 3, 1939, to Morris and Ruby Leona (Lee) Collins, Jesse lived life with grit, humor, and a love for the simple things.
Jesse was a scrapper through and through, a job he absolutely loved. Where others saw junk, Jesse saw treasure. His sharp eye for finding value in the unexpected kept him comfortable, and he took pride in his ability to turn one man’s trash into something useful. He also enjoyed the thrill of playing BINGO, but his true peace came from the outdoors, especially when he was fishing—a quiet escape where he could reflect and relax.
Known for his playful, goofy side, Jesse kept people laughing. He had a particular way with animals—calling his cats "dogs" and his dog "cat," a quirk that became part of his charm. Every morning, he'd be out on the porch, feeding his "dogs," who loved him unconditionally and still look for him.
Stubborn as a mule and as immovable as a rock, once Jesse made up his mind, there was no changing it. While his resolve could be frustrating at times, his family always knew it came from a place of deep caring and love. Jesse’s heart was as big as his will, and he was especially devoted to his grandchildren, always making time for them, no matter what.
Jesse is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Gloria Collins; his son, Tommy Collins; his stepchildren, Erin Atkinson, Krystal East (Bryan Dunbar), Billy (Amber), and George (Dottie); 43 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Morris; his mother, Ruby; his sisters, Rosemary, Betty, Judy, and Alice; his brother, Shorty Collins; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
All services will be private at the family’s convenience.
