James "Jimmy" Earl Hobbs, 53, of Indianapolis, passed away on October 22, 2020.
Jimmy was born in Indianapolis, IN on April 22, 1967 to Lewis James and Etta (Collins) Hobbs. Jimmy was a vehicle master, he was the person to consult before doing anything with one. Whether it was buying a new one, or fixing an old one, he was the one to go to. He was an ace diesel mechanic, particularly on Semis, and he loved to use his knowledge to help whoever he could. Sometimes his love of engines overrode his common sense, and one time he took his daughter Kaydence, who was dressed in all white, to work on a semi because she wanted to be a mechanic like him, and by the time they returned she was covered in grease. That's the kind of man Jimmy was, he had a huge heart and loved his family. He was a sap for his kids, grandkids, and niblings, especially his nephew Levi. He always wanted them around and in his life. He liked fishing and taking the kids, and he loved cooking biscuits and gravy. His intent was to pass on the recipe to the next generation. Spaghetti was his favorite meal and he lost his patience for tacos fast.
Jimmy was an old skool classic country kind of man, and he loved to listen to music and chill with the people he cared about. Among his favorite shows were Mountain Men and Chicago Fire PD, among other cop shows. Jimmy was trustworthy, he kept confidence for everyone who asked. He was accountable, dependable, a man of his words. You knew where you stood with him and he was not shy about it. He enjoyed laughing and joking around. When he met Brandy he first told her "You look like my third wife" to which her response was "Get away from me". But he was persistent, and eventually they were married. He loved Brandy unconditionally. He was her rock, her backbone, her soulmate, and her true ride-or-die. They never played the "I love you more" game, it was always "I love you equally".
Jimmy was a good man, a great man, and he will be missed by many.
Jimmy is survived by his wife and love of his life, Brandy; his children Lawanna Jo, Kaydence (the two daddy's girls), Ryan, Lewis, Julanna, Lil Paula, Brittany, Patrick, and Zack; adopted son John; his siblings Everett, Sherry, Paula, Clyde, Danny, and Rosie; his 'Gramps' Ron Mills; many nieces and nephews including adopted niece Kaitlynn; numerous grandchildren; and countless friends.
Jimmy is preceded in passing by his parents, Lewis and Etta Hobbs; and his brother Leverett Hobbs.
Funeral Services for Jimmy will be 7 PM, Thursday, October 29, 2020 at Fountain Square Cremation & Funeral Services. Visitation will be from 3 PM until the hour of service.
