James Glenn Helton

James Glenn Helton, 61, of Indianapolis, passed away on May 5, 2024. James was born in Indianapolis, IN on April 27, 1963, to Paul and Irene Helton.

James was a beacon of joy. Being the life of the party, James was not afraid to be himself. He was silly, ornery, and just a little bit crazy. James was an outdoorsman through and through. He spent most of his time outside, finding his peace in the beauty and awe of nature. He loved hunting and fishing (his biggest catch being 30 lbs), and he adored horses, which was fitting as the Colts were his favorite team.

James had a gift for tinkering. He was fascinated with how things worked, and being extremely handy, he always knew how to put them back together. He always had a new project to work on. Above all, James’s family was the most important to him. He cared deeply for those he loved, and greatly enjoyed quality time with his children and grandchildren.

James is survived by his children Carrie (Nick) Smith, James Smith, Candace Smith, and Christy Helton; his siblings, Betty Keith, Paula Starr, Bruce (Kellie) Helton, Bobbie (Joe) Bollin, and Linda Duff; his grandchildren, Alyssa Smith, Isaiah Smith, Kaylie Cook, Caiden Poe, William Cook, Elaina Santoyo, Isabella Smith, Linda Santoyo, and Kameron Smith; along with several nieces and nephews.

James is preceded in passing by his parents, Paul and Irene Helton; his brother, Paul Helton; and his granddaughter, Kinsley Hogan.

In the quiet moments of remembrance, we honor James’s memory and the love he shared with us all. His spirit lives on in the legacy of his loved ones. He will be missed deeply.

A funeral service will be held for James at 11AM on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Fountain Square Cremation and Funeral Services. A visitation will take place from 9:30AM until the hour of service. Following his service will be an interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.
