In Loving Memory of Harold "Doug" Douglas Smith
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a truly remarkable soul, Harold "Doug" Douglas Smith, who departed this world on January 25, 2024, at the age of 67. Doug was born on November 21, 1956, in Indianapolis, IN, to proud parents Donald Smith and Judith (McKinney) Ritchey.
Doug was more than a man; he was a beacon of light, always with a warm smile and an unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand. His infectious goofiness and love for a good joke brightened the lives of all fortunate enough to know him. Doug exuded a perpetual optimism that left an undeniable mark on those around him.
Family was the cornerstone of Doug's life, and his devotion to them was unparalleled. His bond with his mother, Judith, was unbreakable, and he cherished the role of being a grandpa with boundless love. For an incredible 49 years, Doug shared his life with the love of his life, Gale, and their union was a testament to enduring love, marked by adoration and thoughtfulness.
Doug was a man of unwavering faith, called to serve others as a Minister at Breaking Bread Apostolic Church. His dedication to his spiritual path was evident in the compassion he extended to all. His impact was immeasurable, and the void left by his passing will be deeply felt by the congregation and beyond.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth. Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Gale; his daughters, Letitia and Laura (Josh); his mother Judy Ritchey; cherished grandchildren, Adriana and Abigale; and siblings Darlene (Dennis), Denise, Robyn, Patti, Donald, and Sylvia. He is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and a multitude of friends who were touched by his kindness.
Doug is reunited in the eternal embrace with his father Donald Smith, his daughter Julie, and his brother-in-law Fred. Though he is no longer physically present, his spirit lives on in the memories of those who were privileged to share in his journey.
Funeral services to celebrate Doug's life will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Breaking Bread Apostolic Church, 530 E 600 N, Whiteland, IN 46184. Visitation will take place from 4-8 PM on Monday, January 29, 2024, at the church. Doug will find his final resting place at Concordia Cemetery following Tuesday's services.
