Genevieve “Ginny” Farris, 92, of Indianapolis, passed away on May 6, 2025.
Ginny was born in El Dorado, IL, on December 31, 1932, to Lesley Alvin and Minerva Ann (Hammersley) Downey. She worked for many years as a Deli Coordinator for Village Pantry before retiring.
Ginny had a deep love for photos and kept thousands of pictures of her family—each one a beloved memory. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and was an avid TV watcher. If it wasn’t the ID channel and true crime, it was the Hallmark Channel. And when the Pacers were playing, Ginny was faithfully coaching from her couch—because, of course, they needed her. While Pacers were her true sports love, she also enjoyed watching the Colts.
In her younger years, Ginny was quite the square dancer. She was also a wonderful cook and baker who once filled her home with the smells of home-cooked meals and sweet treats.
She will be deeply missed.
Ginny is survived by her children Cynthia Baker, Scott Farris, and Kenneth Farris; sister-in-law Roe Farris; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She is preceded in passing by her parents, Lesley and Ann Downey; her husband, John Richard Farris; her daughter, Deanna Farris; her grandson, Nathaniel Evan; and all of her siblings.
