Deborah Ann (Stewart) Higgs, a precious individual known for her kind, loving, caring, and humorously COLORFUL personality, gained her angel wings and went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the age of 65 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Debbie lived a life filled with tremendous passion and HUGE heart that LOVED deeply!
Born on February 8, 1959, to Fred Marion Stewart and Gladys (Shipp) Stewart in Indianapolis, Indiana, Debbie lived her rambunctious young life in Indianapolis, IN with her six siblings Elizabeth (Tootey), Patricia (Patty), Jerry, David, Delores, and Thomas (Tom). She attended Harry E Wood High School.
Debbie married Stephen Higgs on April 7, 2006.
The mold was broken when Debbie was made, and it was evident she was one of a kind from just her hugs. Her life has never been easy, but it’s been a beautiful ride. One of the best things about Debbie is how she knew the value of a hug and kiss. It didn’t matter where you ran into her at…pucker up! She was always reaching out with a big smile, every time you saw her, and that is EVERY TIME. She always brightened people’s spirits and made them laugh. It was always fun cutting up with her, she had a great sense of humor; she was extra and then some…she loved to make people blush. Debbie loved her family deeply, the way a person should. Spending time with them was her greatest joy. She cooked the best food too and provided her grandkids the best bologna sandwiches anytime they came over. She also used to always give them Cheez-It’s and Yoo-hoo’s every time they visited her.
She cherished everyone and Jesus! She was always looking at her children like she had prayed for them and knowing that they were her reward. Those talks with them held a lot of learning and wisdom and a lot of laughter and tears. There was plenty to love about Debbie, especially her uniqueness and the way she cared for others, like her mother Gladys did. There was never any doubt about how good her heart was; she had a beautiful heart and soul.
Debbie was the type of aunt who noticed little things. Like when her niece was a little girl, she loved visiting her because Debbie always had a bunch of makeup and jewelry that she would let her play with. Debbie always made sure that when she left, she always had a small bag of things to take home with her. But that’s who Debbie was, generous, loyal, and she loved with her whole heart.
Undoubtably Debbie was the coolest. She was always there for you, even when you didn’t know that you needed her, offering words of wisdom and just talking. She stayed in touch with people, calling and/or texting if she knew you were going through a really hard time. She always treated people special, and she wanted them to FEEL special. Debbie was free with compliments and because of her honest nature, you knew she meant them; she found beauty in everyone.
Debbie had accepted Jesus into her heart and knew that heaven would be her home one day; she was ready be reunited with her loved ones. She carries on generational blessings, and her witness to the love of Jesus will carry on throughout generations.
Debbie was predeceased to heaven by her parents, Fred and Gladys Stewart; children, Michelle (Murry) Parks, Lin/Melissa Murry; grandson, Gregory Parks; and her siblings, Elizabeth (Tootey Richards) Chambers, Patricia (Dennis) Stewart.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen Higgs; her daughter, Misty (Charlie) Ramshur; her grandchildren, Scott, Avrie, Jacob, Kristyn, Carlie, Nathan, Desiree, and Brandon; and great grandchildren, Alex, Axel, Journee and Yvette; and her siblings, Jerry (Sheri) Stewart; David (Inez) Stewart, and Thomas Stewart; and a slew of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Although Debbie’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, may her legacy be exemplified by love and compassion, and her precious memories never fade and continue to be ever-present in our hearts forever.
The celebration to honor the life of Deborah (Debbie) Higgs will be held at Fountain Square Cremation & Funeral Service on Monday, November 11th with public viewing from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the funeral service following at 7:00 p.m.
