In loving memory of Dawayne George Childs, 61, of Indianapolis, who passed away on January 26, 2024. Dawayne, originally from Lancaster, NE, was a true character who left an undeniable mark on the hearts of those who knew him.
Born to Francis Milford Childs and Marilyn Carol (Ehlert) Childs in Lancaster, Dawayne was spirited from the start. His upbringing was filled with the rambunctious energy of him and his brothers engaging in epic brawls, involving everything from fists to shovels and even BB guns. Dawayne had a love for old school Rock'n'Roll, with a special affection for Eddie Money and KISS.
A passionate gearhead, Dawayne found joy in working on and driving anything with a motor. His adventurous spirit led him to break both legs while riding scooters and motorcycles, but nothing could deter his love for the thrill of the ride. His dream car was a dark green '62 Impala, 62 for his birth year and green for his favorite color.
Dawayne's quirky side shone through in his unique collection of vintage tin cans, amassed through countless auction visits. While he was known to be generous, especially when it came to lending money, he was equally diligent about collecting when payday arrived. For 24 years, he dedicated his time and efforts to Advance Plating.
Family and friends were at the core of Dawayne's world. During his children's younger years, he delighted in leaving pennies around the house for them to discover, leading to treasured penny candy adventures at the local shop. Dawayne's stubbornness was a defining trait that persisted until his last breath.
He is survived by his children Janette Jett, Jeremy Childs, Daniel Hash, Randy Crook, and Felicia Patton, along with his grandchildren Caden, Devin, Natilee, and Caine. His fiancée, Barbara Crook, and his siblings Dave, Donnie, and Denise mourn his passing, joined by best friends Roger, Mark, and many others. Dawayne's legacy extends to numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members.
Dawayne is preceded in passing by his parents Francis and Marilyn Childs, as well as his siblings Danny and Debbie. A memorial service to celebrate Dawayne's life will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Fountain Square Cremation & Funeral Services, with visitation starting at 11 AM until the hour of service. Dawayne's vibrant spirit, love for family, and enduring memories will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed.
