Cynthia Madden

Cindy (Cynthia) Madden, 76, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis, Indiana, with her beloved daughter by her side.

Cindy was born on March 13, 1950, in South Bend, Indiana, to Betty and John Petzold. She grew up with a deep appreciation for family, kindness, and hard work—qualities that would define her throughout her life.

Cindy dedicated 15 years of service to Purdue University in West Lafayette, where she worked in the Krannert PhD Admissions Office before retiring. One of the most rewarding aspects of her career was getting to know the many international and foreign exchange students she met through her work. She took genuine joy in building meaningful relationships with students from around the world, making them feel welcomed and valued during their time at Purdue.

Above all, Cindy treasured her family. She is survived by her loving daughter, Holly Madden of Indianapolis, Indiana, who remained faithfully by her side until the end. Cindy also had a special love for her cats, who brought her endless comfort and companionship throughout the years. She dearly missed her beloved Thomas, who preceded her in death, and found great joy in the companionship of her cherished cat, Xioli.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Betty Petzold, and her siblings, Al Lawson, Michael Petzold, and Cathy Wiebold.

Cindy will be remembered for her warm heart, compassionate spirit, and the lasting connections she made with family, friends, colleagues, and students alike. Her kindness and generosity touched many lives, and her memory will continue to be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
