Craig Allen Russelburg of Indianapolis IN passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, January 14, 2025. He was 69 years old.
He was an employee of the US Postal Service for over 30 years, working mainly as a clerk at the Airport Postal Facility where he was commissioned to paint a mural for the customer lobby. Craig was born in Evansville IN and moved with his family to Indianapolis in 1969, as a preteen. He graduated from Southport High School where he worked as an editor for the Journal, the high school newspaper and the yearbook, the Anchor. He played football for the Southport Cardinals as a wide receiver. Later he became a writer for the IUPUI newspaper, the Sagamore. He was a fan of college and professional sports and tracked the processes of the NFL draft.
He enjoyed family history where he spent much time in genealogy asking questions of older family members, investigating hidden and unknown stories. But he didn’t stop there. He would light up as he shared what he had learned with everyone. He had a keen wit and loved sharing a good story. He had a great love for fishing, buying books on the behavior of fish, and even testing his lures in an aquarium to see how they would function under water. As a young man he would ask permission to fish in the private lakes of neighbors. He was also passionate and outspoken for the plight of the hurting and the misunderstood. He was well liked and had many friends.
Craig is preceded in death by his father, James W. Russelburg, and mother Lucille Russelburg.
Survivors include his four children, Kyle Russelburg, Cameron Russelburg, Benji Russelburg, and Sophia Russelburg. Brother, Brian Russelburg (Marlene), and three grandchildren. And Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.
There will be no public visitation but rather a private family gathering at a later time.
