Bernard Winfrey Obituary

Bernard Anderson Winfrey was a father, a brother, a son, and a friend. Many who would meet him considered him to be a nice, funny, and lovable guy. He never met a stranger. He loved his children and his family very much.

Bernard was most proud of each and every one of his children, and he would express this often in many conversations. He enjoyed every moment he had to spend with them. Family was everything to Bernard.

Bernard was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN to Andria (Winfrey) Jenkins on May 16, 1964.

He attended John Marshall High School, and then later received his GED from Job Corps in “Camp Atterbury.” After working several temporary job positions, Bernard later went on into the Army Reserves.

Through his training in Job Corps, Bernard picked up many skill sets.  He was an electrical engineer, a plumber, a small business owner, and a mechanic who would often work on many cars.  There wasn’t many skills that Bernard couldn’t do! He was a jack of all trades.

Bernard loved to cook! He loved watching movies with his family. He was a jokester, and he loved to give anyone in the room a good belly laugh! When he would cook for his family, he would always ask the question, “Are you BIG hungry or are you little hungry???”  :)

Bernard had three children from his first marriage and one from his second marriage to Tamika Winfrey. He inherited three additional stepchildren (in whom he loved as his very own), upon his second marriage.

Superseding him in death are his mother Andria Jenkins, his brother Thomas Winfrey, and his step daughter Dyeshia Turner.

Bernard leaves to cherish his memory, his four children: Crystal Keyes (Justin), Devin Winfrey (Erica), Twyla Brown (Erik) and Jermil Winfrey; his two step children: Darian Hackett and Anthony Hackett, his twenty-four grandchildren, his Uncle Tommy Winfrey, his Aunt Connie Joyner, his Aunt Deborah Kirk, his Aunt Helen Williams, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
