Barbara Sims Obituary

Barbara Jean Sims, 81, of Indianapolis, formerly of Nineveh, IN, passed away on August 29, 2024, at home surrounded by her found family.

Barbara was born in Nineveh, IN on July 11, 1943 to the late Ulas and Ola Hancock.  She worked for American Medical for many years, but had spent the last 20 enjoying retirement.  She was incredibly crafty, whether it was sewing, painting, making candles, making jams, you name it, she dabbled in it.  Barbara especially enjoyed crafting with her grandchildren Olivia and Kaillel.   Her next favorite hobby was traveling, Kentucky being a favorite destination she revisited over and over again.  Shopping was another favorite pastime of hers, one she enjoyed doing with Nancy and her other close friends.

Barbara had a huge heart with a lot of love to give.  She adored babies and children, and her big heart lead her to taking many of them under her wing.  Barbara was the type of person who was always there if you needed her, and if she had money she would give it.  She was dependable, and nonjudgemental, the type of person you could confide in and be assured she was never going to repeat it, or hold it against you.  She will be greatly missed.

Barbara is survived by her chosen bonus children Nancy Wilson, Bobby Wagner, Jeremy Teague, and Lisa O’Vivion; stepdaughter Katrenia; sister Shirley Redman; Niece Peggy Hodges; grandchildren Olivia, Kaillel, Barbara, Cheri, and Brian; great-grandchildren Faith, Katrenia, AJ, and Abigail; ex-husband Robert Sims; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Barbara is preceded in passing by her parents; her son Phillip Jackson; siblings Helen, Irene, Ernest, Gordon, Harold, Wallace, Archie, Kenneth, Ray, John, and Troy.
