LARRY JOE BURRIS, 83, of Swayzee, IN, formerly of Sullivan, IN passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Community Hospital in Indianapolis, IN surrounded by his family.

He was born July 21, 1940 in Clay County, IN to Joe Burris and Mildred (Keller) Burris.

Survivors include his children, Arlie Joe Burris of Terre Haute, IN, Richard Burris (Jennifer) of Greenville, SC, William Burris (Suri) of San Antonio, TX, Penny-Jo Zellers (Andrew) of Swayzee, IN; grandchildren, Abbey, Alek, Tristan, Brian and Branden; great-grandchildren, Sophie, Danny, Emily, Alekzander, and Nora; great-great-grandchildren, Dahlia, Lexie, and Landon; sister, Betty Swayzee of Jasonville, IN; brothers, Robert Burris (Beverly of Arcola, IL, Virgil Burris (Janet) of Jasonville, IN, Paul Burris (Connie) of Jasonville, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Burris; brother, Vernon Burris.

Joe was a man of diverse passions and commitments, an ardent fan of NASCAR and The NFL. He found joy in the thrill of the race and the excitement of the game. His love for his family was evident in the cherished memories that will forever be treasured. Joe also served with dedication as a member of the Civil Defense, where he contributed to the safety and well-being of his community. His compassionate spirit led him to travel with the night crawlers, a group dedicated to repairing homes after disasters, where he made a tangible difference in the lives of those affected. Joe’s love for music was a constant throughout his life, as he spent many years playing drums in county bands, sharing his talent and passion for Country-Western music with others. His life was a melody of service, family and joy, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. A Celebration of Life is scheduled from 5 to 7 P.M. Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the Funeral Home.
