Myron Koehring Obituary

Myron C. Koehring decided to stop existing and move on to the spiritual world February 7, 2018. He was born in Indianapolis February 15, 1937. He graduated from Tech High School in 1954 and attended IU Bloomington before entering the US Army. He had the pleasure of playing saxophone in the Army Band. He was an accomplished pilot and at 27 flew cross country to the West Coast with his sister Lida and her husband Marcel. He was part owner of Koehring and Sons until the 1980's when he sold his share of the company and moved to Situate, Massachusetts to care for his elderly Aunt Dr. Vera Koehring. He returned to Indianapolis 5 years later to live with his sister Paula and niece Evie Crouch. In 2002, he bought a small house on Lake Hollybrook and enjoyed being an active member of the small community. In 2012, he moved into a beautiful house on the adjacent property of his niece Cheryl Koehring Lieberman (Walt) and Lucas. Walt, Cheryl and Lucas welcomed him with open arms. He enlightened them with his mystical thinking and numerous belly laughs.

Myron was ahead of his time organizing a computer system for Koehring and Sons long before anyone had computers. Much later in life, his love of technology and inventive spirit even led him to invent an electronic cat door for his cat Float. Float would talk and meow and the door would open. Quite amazing!

He taught Pre-flying classes, called Ground School, to Explorer scouts at the Greenwood airport in the later part of the 60’s. He was also an avid camper by then and took his nephews with him quite often, driving his 4- wheel Jeep into some very remote areas of Indiana.

He enjoyed cooking for others and his niece Evie adored the special pancakes he made just for her.

He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Arlene Koehring, brother Alfred Koehring sister Paula Couch, best friend and nephew Chris Crouch and his favorite niece Evie Crouch. He is survived by his brother Eric Koehring (Torrey), and sister Lida Gashke.

Instead of flowers, Myron would hope that you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for some poor unfortunate soul in his name.

Myron,
Pilot, Musician, Dancer, Life of the party, Smart-Buddha.

Myron was a peaceful human. He liked to take it easy and lived his life to keep the hassles to a minimum. He was an animal lover and whisperer. Any pet he ever raised was probably the best pet you’ve ever met. He was so relaxed and docile with animals they had no choice except to mock his personality.

I didn’t spend a lot of time with Myron in his younger years. The time I did spend with him, I always enjoyed. These are some things I was told about him. He was in the army and attended Indiana University. He received his private pilot license in his early twenties and was an accomplished pilot. He
flew at least a couple trips over the Rockies in his Navion airplane. He was a lover of life, pilot instructor and the one who got his brother Alfred into flying.

Myron was just a laid back dude. He was easy going on everyone and everything his whole life.

He was very frugal but gave a lot of what he had to many different charities.

When Myron was living next to us, I never saw him in a bad mood. You could stop in on him any hour of the day he would greet you with enthusiastic happiness. He could be sound asleep, wake him up and receive a happy polite greeting. He had great manners. He was very curious and observant. He liked everyone, but he could definitely read people. I used to like hearing his take on certain people that we both knew. He could really articulate on someone’s personality…really bring it in light. I wish I had recorded him when he was in his right mind.

I really can’t find the words to describe his demeanor. Just very calm, light, Buddha-esque. Very non- threatening to anything or anyone in the universe. A fine specimen.

His famous sayings:
“What’s going on?”
“I’m just existing.”
“Hey Float” (his cat’s name)
