Albert "Al" Millard Matthews, 86, of Indianapolis, formally of Smith Grove, KY, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017.

Al was born in Smith Grove, KY on May 19, 1931 to the late Walter and Lula (Roundtree) Matthews.  Al joined the army, and became a Corporal during the Korean War.  He was a payroll accountant for G.M. and ran a tax business for 50 years.  He was musically gifted, and loved to compose.  At last count he had over 800 songs he had written himself.  He was an author of a book that will hopefully be published soon.  He loved to write.

Al was a man of great faith.  He was a life member, 55 years total, at Thompson Road Baptist Church.  He was humble, and a selfless person.  He was generous in both his affection and material things he could spare.  He often would sing to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren "Jesus Loves Me, This I Know", and even rewrote the lyrics for them in a special version.  He loved his family and being a grandfather.

Al is survived by his children, Julie (Julius), Scott (Sharon), and James; his step-children Steven (Michelle) Whaley, Brenda (Freddy) Phillips, and Christy (Darrell) Tackett; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service for Al will be 1PM Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Fountain Square Cremation & Funeral Services.  Family and friends are welcome to visit from 5-8PM, Friday, January 5, 2018 at the funeral home.  Burial will follow Saturday's service at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with military honors.
